Nat Geo photographer Brian Skerry celebrates the mystery and beauty of the sea while exposing the threat that humans pose to ocean-dwellers. Here are some of his most “aww”-inducing images.

The final photograph shows a leatherback sea turtle hatchling about taste saltwater for the first time. Leatherback sea turtles are the largest and oldest of all turtle species. Only one in a thousand leatherbacks reach maturity.
