The Truth About Why Cats and Dogs Really Kicked Ass.
Ok I should be asleep right now. I should be off in a wonderful land of tropical islands with a insanely and intensely beautiful man who should closely resemble either Jericho Z Barrons ( yes kittens, i used his fictious government name) or Jason Momoa from Conan. Shit I should be drooling into my pillow because I am within the happy shiny place. BUT NO.
It’s Finals Week bitches and I am pulling an all nighter. -___- .
So now it’s about 6 am and I fuckin’ about in my room.
But thats okay because I am watching “The Truth About Cats and Dogs” and it’s amazing.
This movie rocks because Janeane Garofalo is in it and she is like the ultimate beast. I fucking love Janeane Garofalo. She is beautiful and cute in a way that is relatable but completely distant and worthy of rooting for all on it’s own. She is snarky and quirky and wierd but kind a weird that is dope and you’re into it. I could go on forever. She is the bomb. And then Uma Thurman, who is soo gorgeous in that awkward model kind of way that makes her both beautiful and a cult classic. And Ben Chaplin who is sophiscted and dorky and cute, total a 90’s cute coffee shop kind of boy.
So great cast right ?
Now that + a the ‘weird girl will be #winning’ story = ?
A W E S O M E N E S S !!!!!
And I am not going to lie, my favorite scene is ABSOLUTELY Uma Thurman’s massive foodgasm set to the epic sensual food porn musical glory that is known as Suzanne Vegas ‘Caramel’. That ish spoke to my soul !! like YESSS, you betta turn us mutually super turned on by feeding me decadently sexy sugary things ! YESSS !
So my last couple of posts have been kinda sad, but I am a sunshine girl so I hope this will be a nice step back from that.
1. Drake, So Far Gone
Freshmen year, this album was alwayyyys fucking bumping out of Saunders 107 between me and my roomie. It summed up all the ambition, lust and good vibes times that happened freshmen year. The songs on this album/mixtape are versatile, as any good song should be. It speaks to any mood your in and you’ll this find something to pump to. Drake hit that perfect mix of sexy slow jams, thoughtful ballads and songs dedicated to love, party jams and general ‘fuck-off-iam-young-and-sexy-and-on-my-grind” vibes. Before Drake was begging to marry Nicki Minaj and squatting in Marvin’s Room, he was a freshman to the game and this was his sound.
Album Highlights: Let’s Call It Off, Successful, A Night Off, Little Bit, Unstoppable.
2. Florence and the Machine, Lungs
This album. Yo, let me tell you about this fucking album. Sincerely it’s up there as one of my favorite albums of all time. My roomate introduced me to this album our freshman year. She was like, “You gotta check out this indie British chick, she’s amazing. I think you would really love her song ‘Howl’ ” lo and behold that song is STILL my fucking theme songs most nights. Way way before Florence was getting repped by annoying tweens and teens who heard her in Twilight, Florence was the new voice of romantic rocker girls across the country. This album is like a Victorian breakup CD with rawness, and rage in all the right places. Not to mention Florence is a white girl with a seriously respectably ability to know where to place the drum and bass.
Album Highlights: Blinding, Howl, Cosmic Love, My Boy Builds Coffins,
3. Beyonce, 4
I’ve come to a revelation. I can’t stand Beyonce’s public image. I hate the fact that she has gotten whiter and whiter as her career as gotten hotter. BUT. I can’t even lie, I fucking LOVE this ablum. Beyonce, musically speaking, is like my older sister that I can’t stand because she is a total sellout but I can’t help but dig her swag and sound. I like that her sound is deliberately a throwback to the 90’s and 80’s. It’s a perfectly nostalgic and classic album and considering that for me being 20 has been all about reminiscing, this album to too perfect to deny. I throw this album on cleaning my room, making dinner, taking a shower or doing whatever. It’s the perfect soundtrack for the childhood nostalgic that everyone in my generate feels at some point in time. Beyonce with 4, takes to someplace fresh and old at once, but it’s bouncy and you know you wanna fuck with it.
Album Highlights: 1+1, Start Over, End of Time, I Was Here, Dance For You.
4. The Weekend, House of Balloons
I am not sure if I can say that The Weeknd’s first album/ mixtape is one of my all time favorites but I can say this. If you put this shit on, I will vibe to it to the end of everything. The Weeknd’s sound is such a enthralling blend of sad, seductive, buzzed out on something, off kilter and hungry for your ears. It’s intoxicating. It’s the perfect album for Oberlin College. Like seriously. If I had to leave one CD for the next batch of young POC girls that are going to come to Oberlin and have to swim up stream, it’d be this album. It’s gritty and dirty but it’s glamourous because for as raw and unpristine as this album is, it doesn’t care. The Weeknd, is like waking up after a killer weekend night and you know that everything that happened, the good, the bad and the terrible was still awesome as fuck and you want to remember it.
Album Highlights: The Knowing, The Morning, High For This, What You Need
5. Kid Cudi, Man on the Moon: The Legend of Mr. Rager.
Being that by the time I graduate I still have spent 4 years of my life, living with and loving the people of Cleveland. So it’d just be fucked up not to rep for Cleveland. Cudi’s whole flow and swag is just so fucking Cleveland. It’s smooth but it’s gritty and aggressive in a way that is just… listen-able. Also Kid Cudi raps about things that are both mundane and intrinsically tragic, the whole time maintaining his alternative, street, skater, intellectual kind of approach he has going. His shit is the perfect soundtrack for anything you’re trying to do with swag and do it big.
Album Highlights: The End, Mr. Rager, Ashin Kusher, The Mood, Trapped In My Mind
So Kittens, what are the albums that have summed a time in your lives thus far ?
One day someone will prove me wrong about showing my heart.
There will be a branch I go out on that doesn’t snap underneath my feet. And the guy I am glowing for will be glowing for me too. There won’t be lies, falsehoods and thorns in the dark.
I found truth on a cold rainy night and she touched my hand and showed me what was real. It’s another candle I have to let die down. It’s another break that will heal up. Quicker this time but still. It’s a sunset without my name on it.
